b- I think they all show that people change over time
g- Well, “keep your wits about you” is another way of saying don’t get comfortable and be ready
h- I think that the title is referring to when his dad was working and fell over.
It helps because he was the one that threw them off the train.
k- 1. The reader meets Charley

A. Kingston family was ashamed because No Name Women became pregnant by a man who was not her husband. Yes, it’s important to the culture and the family.
Engaging the text
A. “You must not tell anyone,” my mother said, “what I am about to tell you. In china your father had a sister who killed herself. She jumped into the family well. We say that your father has all brothers because it is as if she had never been born. This is just saying that her father had a sister who killed herself. When I first read this I thought that it was insane, but after reading the whole story it makes sense, but it is still sad.

B. I think that the Kingston’s family and the villagers acted the way that they did when they found out that no name women was pregnant was because at that time period it was considered way bad being pregnant if you weren’t married. I think the Kingston’s family was probably embarrassed that she was pregnant and not married. In 1924 the village celebrated seventeen hurry up weddings- to make sure that every young man who went out on the road would responsibly come home. This time period was very important to the culture at this time. It was very important that if you were pregnant that you would be married. Sometimes you would even only be allowed to have on kid. I think that today if you are pregnant and not married is kind of common. There isn’t a punishment today that if you are pregnant and not married. I think that if the grandmother in grandmothers victory found out that one of her granddaughters were pregnant and not married that their would’ve been a punishment. The grandmother you be very disappointed in her granddaughter. If I was pregnant and not married, my parents would kick my butt!!!

Grandmothers Victory
A. It’s more complex than just bad-mannered children or racism because she was raised better than the other girls. She knows how to treat adults and how to show respect.
F. She describes him as just a humble man obeying the girls and doing what he is asked to do. Even if he is worn out, or even if he is tired of them mocking him, he still obeys.
Dear Mom,
For my English class we had to read a short story called Grandmothers Victory. It’s about a girl named Angelou and her giving a description about her Grandmother. Angelou grandmother is a very nobility woman. Mom I would like to tell you about one of my friends Sarah, who you don’t know that much about.
Sarah is 17 years old, and is a senior. Her parents are very wealthy. Sarah could pretty much get anything that she wanted if she really wanted to. Sarah never brags about how wealthy her parents are, or how big her house is, or all the toys that her family has. Sarah is a very humble girl. She is a great example to my friends and me.
You would think where Sarah is so rich that she would wear all these nice brand names clothes, but she doesn’t. Matter in fact her favorite place to shop is target, that’s where she gets most of her clothes. Nothing is wrong with target, I love that store myself. Most people when they are rich are bratty and mean. Sarah though is nice to everyone and has very good manners. Like I said she is a good example to my friends and me.
An example that I can think of is one time Sarah’s parents bought her a brand new 2009 Honda. Sarah didn’t want it though! My friends and I thought that she was crazy!! She drives a 2002 Honda and she said that she loves it and doesn’t want to get rid of it. Sarah could get anything that she wanted. She doesn’t ask her parents for that much though. Sarah actually has a job, she doesn’t work that much, but she doesn’t need to. She once told my friends and me that it’s good to learn work ethics now. I am so grateful for my friend Sarah and the nobility that she has.

A. This was an experience that happened during his childhood. Hughes stopped believing in Jesus, he lied to everyone and said that he saw Jesus.
F. It tells us that the author was willing to wait until he actually felt Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. Hughes was counting on Jesus to come to him. It also means that he isn’t easily pressured into things.

Something in my life that I have been pressured into doing and I didn’t want too, was sneaking out in the middle of the night. I can remember my friends and I were all having a sleepover and these boys wanted to hang out. One of my friends got this brilliant idea that we should sneak out and hang out with them. I knew from the start that I didn’t want to do this and that it probably wasn’t the best idea. But that didn’t stop them, they wanted to go!
I finally gave in and went with them because I didn’t want to stay at my friend’s house by myself. We were walking to this boy’s house and we were all freaking out because it’s 2 o’clock in the morning and pitch black. When we finally got there we all relaxed and calmed down. In the mean time were all having a great time and hanging out. His parents weren’t home for the weekend, and he had a pool in his back yard. We went swimming and we were way loud and laughing at everything.
The neighbors behind his house came out and told us that he called the cops so we better leave. My friends and I started freaking out because if the girl’s parents knew that we snuck out of her house we would all get in so much trouble. We hurried and left the boys house and we were running back to our friend’s house where we were sleeping over at. One the way home we saw a car, we hurried and hid in the bushes and sure enough it was a cop. One of our friends dropped her phone and went to go get it and that’s when the cop saw us and turned on his light. We were so mad at our friend because we were right in front of the girl’s house that we were sleeping over at. We wouldn’t of have gotten caught but my friend had to go get her phone.
Her parents could see the lights in their room and came out to see what was going on. The neighbors also came out because they could hear us and also see the lights. I can remember from this day how scary that night was. I knew as soon as they called my parents that, which would be the last sleepover I ever had. Sure enough it was the last sleepover that my parents ever let me have. I can remember being so frustrated because I didn’t want sneak out in the first place. I was so angry that I let my friends peer pressure me into something that I didn’t want to do.
I think that I can relate my experience and the experience that Hughes had in Salvation. We both got pressured into something that we didn’t want to do. The difference though is that I gave in and Hughes was strong enough and didn’t do it. I have learned from this experience to listen to your gut feelings. I have also learned don’t let your friends pressure you into things that you don’t want to do. If they were good enough friends and knew you didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t make you, or they would stay back with you.

A Hanging
A. I think that Orwell had a message in this story. The message was that he was against capital punishment. He uses his descriptive details to show that he is against capital punishment.
D. Orwell lists great detail about the hanging. He told us that the prisoner was crying. He was crying so loud even when a cloth bag was put over him it was still a persistent cry. The crying went on and on.The hangman seemed to be counting the cries giving him a certain amount. He also said everyone watching this horrible hanging had changed color. The Indians turned grey like a bad cup of coffee. I think he wrote these details to show how horrible capital punishment really is. He gave as much detail to show that this is unnecessary. I feel the same way. These details showed me how horrible capital punishment really is. They wait and wait to finally kill the man and it is just horrible

There are many topics that I strongly have an opinion about. The one that I am going to talk about today is being on your cell phone and driving. I can’t stress on how important it is to not drive and text or be on the phone with someone and be driving. First off it’s so frustrating when you’re driving and person in the lane next to you keeps on going over the line and almost bumping into your car. Second off I hate it when the person in front of you is on their phone and is going 20 miles per hour under the speed limit, I know that it’s safer to go slower when your phone but I still hate how slow that they go. A story that I can relate too is one time my friend was driving and she was on her phone, I was also on my phone. We were waiting to leave the school parking lot and since she was on her phone she wasn’t paying attention and she bumped into the car in front of her. She was very lucky that it didn’t do any damage to either one of the cars. On YouTube there is this movie where the person is on their phone and she gets into a huge accident and many people die from it. I know that they exaggerated big time but it scared me enough to not be on my phone when I am driving. I can’t imagine being on my phone and causes and accident and taking away other peoples life because I couldn’t wait 10 minutes or so until I got home. I think that it is very important that if you do need to be on the phone that you pull over on the side of the road, it can prevent many accidents. I also think that it is a good idea that if cops see you on your phone that they give you a ticket. Personally for me I wouldn’t want to live day to day knowing that I killed someone from being on my phone while driving.
